Pat Chat October 1st
The Week That Was
Wednesday, September 26th – Pats 4 Swift Current 3 OT
The Pats began their first road swing of the season with a stunning comeback to pick up their first win of the season. Down 3-0 after one period of play, the Pats turned things around in the second and entered the third only trailing by one. Trent Ouellette pulled things even late in the game and Morgan Klimchuk’s second of the night gave the Pats the win in Overtime. Matt Hewitt made 38 saves in the win, including 20 in the first period.
Friday, September 29th – Kootenay 4 Pats 1
After a day off, the Pats came out strong against the Ice, but goaltender Mackenzie Skapski held Regina off the board with some amazing saves. The Pats couldn’t find a way to get anything by the Kootenay netminder and trailing by two in the third period, the Ice were able to take advantage of the Pats trying to open things up and add two more in the late stages. Ouellette picked up his third goal of the season as the Pats only marker. Despite allowing four goals, rookie goaltender Teagan Sacher looked solid in his first start of the season.
Saturday, September 30th – Medicine Hat 5 Pats 1
The Pats looked to come home with a winning record on the trip when they went into Medicine Hat to face the Hunter Shinkaruk and the Tigers. The Pats got on the board first as Lane Scheidl capitalized on a partial breakaway in the second period. Kyle Becker would respond for the Hat late in the frame with the first of three Tigers powerplay goals. The Pats dug themselves a hole heading to the third by taking a pair of penalties on the same play to go down two men for a full two minutes. The Tigers scored on the advantage and didn’t look back from there, scoring four times in the third en route to the win.
Quote of the Week
“At the end of the day our discipline is hurting us. We took eight or nine penalties again and only get (three) power plays. That’s not a recipe for success in any league when you have to kill all the time. You shorten your bench when you’re killing penalties and a lot of times the guys who kill penalties are also your best offensive players. When it comes down to the time when you really need a goal they don’t have as much gas in the tank. That’s something we have to rectify.”
