The greatest rivalry in junior hockey is about to be taken to a whole new level. The Regina Pats and Moose Jaw Warriors will face-off for the first time in the playoffs since the ‘03/’04 season and if the regular season is any indication, this series could go in either team’s favor. Both teams compiled a similar 4-2-2-0 record in the regular season series with 4 of the 8 games going into overtime. Leading the way for the Pats has been All-Star forward Jordan Weal, who has 15 pts in 7 games against the Warriors this season. Playoff History- Regina Pats vs. Moose Jaw Warriors
2003-2004: Meeting in the East Division Semi-Finals, the Moose Jaw Warriors rolled to a 4-0 series sweep over the Pats. Pats netminder Dustin Slade received a 4 game suspension after Game 1for a headshot to the Warriors Cam Lilley and the Pats never recovered. SERIES: MOOSE JAW 4 – REGINA PATS 0
2001-2002: In this quarter final matchup, it was the Pats who were favored over the Warriors after Bob Lowe’s Pats finished up a solid 40 win season. However, it was the Warriors who came out on top after playing a physical, hard-fought series against the Pats stars Garth Murray and Filip Novak. SERIES: MOOSE JAW 4 – REGINA 2
1997-1998: The Pats, led by forward Josh Holden, defeated the Warriors in 4 straight games to advance to the Semi-Finals against Brandon. Holden was forced out of action in game 2 of the series after a freak accident where a skate cut his wrist. However, the Warriors were still no match for the Pats and went on to be swept.
