Tyler Brown Named WHL Goaltender of the Week
Calgary, Alta. – The Western Hockey League announced today that Regina Pats goaltender Tyler Brown has been named the WHL Goaltender of the Week and the league nominee for Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending May 7, 2017.
The 20-year-old Brown went 1-1 with a 2.39 goals-against average, .911 save percentage and 51 saves over 126 minutes played as the Regina Pats split the opening two games of the 2017 WHL Championship Series with the Seattle Thunderbirds. This is the fourth time this season Brown has been named WHL Goaltender of the Week. He was previously named WHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending March 12, the week ending April 16 and the week ending April 23.
On Friday, May 5, Brown stopped 24 of 26 shots in a 2-1 overtime loss versus Seattle. The following night, the veteran goaltender stopped 27 of 30 shots in a 4-3 overtime win versus Seattle.
To this point in the 2017 WHL Playoffs, Brown is 13-6 with a 2.16 GAA and .925 SV%. He sits among the WHL Playoffs leaders in wins (T-1st), GAA (2nd) and SV% (3rd).
Brown, who is in his third WHL campaign, went 33-8-5-1 with a 2.64 GAA, .911 SV% and five shutouts in 50 regular season appearances. The 6-foot-1, 178-pound product of Winnipeg has gone 61-34-7-6 with a 2.94 GAA, .908 SV% and seven shutouts in 119 career WHL regular season appearances.
In 31 career WHL post-season appearances, Brown is 20-11 with a 2.36 GAA, .921 SV% and two shutouts.
Brown and the Pats visit the Seattle Thunderbirds for Games 3, 4 and 5 of the 2017 WHL Championship Series presented by Rogers, with Game 3 slated for Tuesday, May 9 (7:35 p.m. PT) at the ShoWare Center in Kent, Wash.
