RECAP: Howe Leads Charge In Impressive Victory Over Rebels

Regina, Sask. — The Regina Pats extended their point streak to three games (2-0-1-0) with an impressive 6-2 win over the visiting Red Deer Rebels on Saturday at the Brandt Centre.
Tanner Howe led the Pats’ charge with a pair of goals and two assists in the win. Borya Valis, Sam Oremba, Easton Armstrong and Connor Bedard rounded out the scoring for the Pats who moved above .500 on the season. Matthew Kieper had a great night in the Pats net stopping 36 of 38 Rebels blasts.
Hunter Mayo and Mats Lindgren replied for the Rebels who got 14 saves by Kyle Kelsey (on 20 shots) in the loss.

THE GOALS
First Period
REG 1-0 at 7::00 — Borya Valis (9), assisted by Stanislav Svozil and Tanner Howe // The Pats entered the Rebels zone with speed and the puck got worked over to Valis who put a backhander past Kelsey to give the Pats a 1-0 lead.
RD 1-1 at 13:27 — Hunter Mayo (8), assisted by Kai Uchacz and Christoffer Sedoff (5-on-3 PP) // With the Rebels up two skaters, the puck got to Mayo at the point who fired a long blast past Matthew Kieper to tie the game at 1-1.
REG 2-1 at 16:48 — Tanner Howe (8), assisted by Borya Valis and Connor Bedard (PP) // The Pats worked the puck around the perimeter and Svozil got the puck to Bedard who got a pass to Howe who buried the puck past a sprawling Kelsey to restore the Pats one-goal lead at 2-1.
Second Period
REG 3-1 at 4:10 — Sam Oremba (2), unassisted // The Rebels were caught scrambling in their zone and a defender failed to clear the puck that ended up on Oremba’s stick and it happened to end up in the back of the net to extend the lead to 3-1.
REG 4-1 at 8:39 — Easton Armstrong (7), assisted by Alexander Suzdalev and Zane Rowan // Armstrong dropped a pass to Suzdalev who shot toward the Rebels net and Armstrong tipped the puck past the goalie to give the Pats a 4-1 lead.
REG 5-1 at 14:37 — Tanner Howe (9), assisted by Stanislav Svozil and Alexander Suzdalev (PP) // With the Pats on the powerplay, Howe was providing a nice screen in front of the Rebels netminder and he tipped a point shot from Svozil past Kelsey to extend the Pats lead to 5-1.
REG 6-1 at 17:08 — Connor Bedard (17), assisted by Tanner Howe and Borya Valis (PP) // With the Pats on the powerplay, Howe got the pass in the slot and sent a between-the-legs behind-the-back pass to Bedard who made no mistake and buried the snapshot to give the Pats a 6-1 lead late in the middle period.
Third Period
RD 6-2 at 11:53 — Mats Lindgren (1), assisted by Hunter Mayo and Dwayne Jean Jr. // The Rebels broke in on an odd-man rush and Lindgren received a cross-ice pass and put a shot at Kieper who got a piece of it but not enough and the Rebels cut the lead to four goals at 6-2.
