PREVIEW: Pats Rematch Hitmen On Home Ice
Regina, Sask. – The Regina Pats (16-22-1-1) host the Calgary Hitmen (17-16-5-2) on Friday at 7:00 p.m., inside the Brandt Centre.
The Pats are coming off a 6-3 loss to the Edmonton Oil Kings on Tuesday, ending their three game Alberta road trip where the Pats went 0-3. The Pats stormed back down 3-0, tying the game 3-3 in the third period before three unanswered goals by the Oil Kings in the final frame. Stanislav Svozil recorded his first career two goal game, while Connor Bedard (1G-1A) and Tanner Howe (2A) each had multi-point games. The final shots were 42-20 for Edmonton, with the Pats going 1-4 on the power play and 5-7 on the penalty kill.
Kelton Pyne made his first career WHL start, allowing six goals on 42 shots, while also stopping Dylan Guenther on a penalty shot. The Pats have now dropped their last six games and the last nine on the road. Tonight’s matchup will be the first game of back-to-back this weekend as the Pats travel to Saskatoon on Saturday.
On the other side, the Calgary Hitmen have dropped their last two games as they’re in the middle of their four game Saskatchewan road trip, losing to Prince Albert (5-2) and Saskatoon (4-2). The Hitmen are 2-5 over their last seven games, having been outscored 29-to-14 during that time. The Hitmen are nine points ahead of the Pats in the Eastern Conference standings, sitting in seventh.
They’re led by Riley Fiddler-Schultz who leads the Hitmen in goals (21), assists (29), points (50), +/- (+14) and shots on goal (182) this season. Sean Tschigerl is also a name to watch out for, as he leads the WHL with five short-handed goals while goaltender Brayden Peters has played the fourth most minutes (1976) and has made the fifth most saves (935) in the WHL this season.

- Pats alumni Brad Hornung passed away Tuesday evening at the age of 52 following a brief but courageous battle with cancer. He played two seasons with the Pats (1985-87). On March 1, 1987, Hornung’s playing career came to a premature end when he suffered a severe spinal cord injury following an on-ice collision, rendering him a quadriplegic. Prior to puck drop, we will hold a moment of silence.
- The Pats have seven players on the injured list, as G Drew Sim, G Matthew Kieper, D Adam McNutt, D Jake Johnson, F Zack Stringer, F Jakob Brook and F Zane Rowan are out. G Kelton Pyne and G Spencer Welke have joined the team.
- Regina has dropped their last six games, sliding from T-8th in the Eastern Conf. standings to T-10th and five points out of a playoff spot…during the skid, the Pats have been outscored 31-to-20…have also dropped all six contests where they’ve either been tied or with the lead.
