PREVIEW: Pats kick off five game home stand against Swift Current Sunday
The Regina Pats (3-11-0-0) kick off a five game homestand on Sunday afternoon when they take on the Swift Current Broncos (1-13-0-0). Puck drop is at 4 p.m. at the Brandt Centre. The Pats are coming off a 6-2 loss in Prince Albert on Friday night while the Broncos fell at home to the Everett Silvertips 4-1. Today is the second of six meetings between the Pats and Broncos this year, Regina is 1-0-0-0 in the season series. The Lead Up: Pats drop 6-2 decision in Prince Albert Friday
The Regina Pats dropped to 3-3-0-0 on the road this season after a 6-2 loss in Prince Albert to the league leading Raiders on Saturday night. The Raiders scored three times in the first period, getting even strength goals from Sean Montgomery, Justin Nachbaur and Brett Leason and it was 3-0 after 20 minutes. The Raiders added three more in the second, one on the powerplay and two short-handed to lead 6-0, before Nick Henry got the Pats on the board with his fifth and it was 6-1 after two. In the third, Garrett Wright scored on a partial breakaway for his first career WHL goal and the Raider lead was cut to 6-2 and that was the final. The Raiders outshot the Pats 29-21 in the win and improved to 3-0-0-0 in the season series. The Regina powerplay was oh for the three, the penalty kill two for three and Dean McNabb made 23 saves.
First for Wright
Pats forward Garrett Wright scored his first career Western Hockey League goal on Friday night in Prince Albert. The 17-year-old rookie fought off a check on a partial breakaway and finished on the short side of Ian Scott in the third period for the Pats second goal of the game. Wright, a product of Mesa, Aizona was listed and signed by the Pats during the 2017-18 season. In 12 games so far in his rookie campaign, he has a goal and an assist to go along with a plus-2 rating and two penalty minutes.
Pratt Hits 200
Pats forward Austin Pratt played in his 200th career Western Hockey League game on Friday night against the Raiders. The 19-year-old picked up an assist in the second period in his milestone game. Pratt played his first two seasons in the WHL with the Red Deer Rebels and was acquired by the Pats in December of 2017. For his career, Pratt has 36 goals and 41 assists for 77 points. In 14 games this season he has scored five goals and has six assists for 11 points which is third most on the team.
Henry Rolling
Pats alternate captain Nick Henry has put up points in four consecutive games and in nine of his last 10 entering Sunday afternoon’s contest against the Swift Current Broncos. In the last four, Henry has three goals and two assists. In the last 10 games, the Colorado Avalanche prospect has five goals and 10 assists for 15 points. For the season, Henry leads the Pats with five goals and 18 points and is on pace for 87 points which would be a new career high. His previous high was 81 points in 2016-17, his 17-year-old year.
