PREVIEW: Pats host Wheat Kings on Fan Appreciation Night
Regina, Sask. – The Regina Pats conclude their 2023-24 home schedule with their second last game of the season as they host the Brandon Wheat Kings for the Fan Appreciation game at 7:00 p.m.
Prior to puck drop, the Pats will be honouring the 1974 Memorial Cup winning team, as well as holding their annual pre-game awards ceremony. The Regina Pats look to end their home schedule on a high note today. The Pats enter this contest with a 22-38-4-2 record and 50 points, which is 11th in the East with 50 points. Despite a 5-25-2-1 road record this season, the Pats have gone 17-13-2-1 on home ice this season, with 122 goals for inside the Brandt Centre versus their 83 goals for on the road.
The Pats are coming off a 5-1 loss to the Prince Albert Raiders on Wednesday, dropping their second straight game. The Pats would spoil Max Hildebrand’s shutout bid with Tanner Howe scoring his team leading 28th of the season in the third period. The Raiders power play proved to be the difference, going 3-6. The Pats finished 1-2 on their power play. The shots were 37-26 for the Raiders, with Kelton Pyne allowing five goals on 37 shots.
The Brandon Wheat Kings have clinched a playoff spot with one game left in the season.
Currently in sixth in the East with a 32-28-6-1 record with 71 points, the Wheat Kings will have to await results to see who they will play in round one. They can still finish as low as eighth and as high as sixth as just four points separate the Wheat Kings and Prince Albert Raiders.
They are coming off a 5-3 win over the Moose Jaw Warriors on Thursday and have now won their last two contests coming in.
