The Regina Pats battle the Tri-City Americans for the first time since February 24 of last season, falling 5-3 at the Town Toyota Centre.
The Pats picked up three of a possible four points in their two game set in Brandon against the Wheat Kings. First, it was a 4-3 overtime win on Friday followed by a 4-3 overtime loss on Saturday. Cameron Kuzma scored his first WHL goal, Connor Bear scored for a second straight game and Ewan Huet made a season-high 40 saves. Braxton Whitehead (1G-1A) and Tye Spencer (2A) each tallied multi-point games. The Pats went 0-1 on their power play and 4-5 on their penalty kill. The Wheat Kings outshot the Pats 44-24.
The Tri-City Americans are in the middle of their Eastern Division road trip, where they are 0-2. The Americans had their 12 game winning-streak come to an end with a 5-3 loss on Friday.
The Americans had a tight 2-1 loss to the Saskatoon Blades on Saturday followed by a 3-1 win over the Swift Current Broncos on Tuesday. Savin Kirk, Jackson Smith and Gavin Garland scored for the Ams, while Lukas Matecha made 33 saves in the win. The shots were 45-34 for Tri-City. They finished 0-4 on their power play and 3-3 on their penalty kill.
WHO TO WATCH
Tye Spencer, Braxton Whitehead and Connor Bear all had a productive weekend for the Pats in Brandon. Spencer recorded four points (1G-3A) in two games while Braxton Whitehead tallied three points in two contests (1G-2A). Connor Bear has also scored in back-to-back games (2G).
For the Americans, 20-year-old forward Brandon Whynott leads the Americans roster with 26 points (12G-14A) in 20 games this season. Whynott just had his 13 game point-streak end on Saturday (9G-13A).
COMING UP
The Regina Pats will play eight straight games on the road, and that starts on Friday, November 22 with a 7pm puck drop against the Swift Current Broncos. The Pats will then head to Prince Albert to battle the Raiders on Saturday, November 23 at 7pm.
