Bridgeman named Eastern Division Academic Player of the Year
Regina, Sask. – The Western Hockey League announced Thursday that Regina Pats 2006-born defenceman Kolten Bridgeman is the Eastern Divisions recipient of the WHL Scholastic Player of the Year.
Bridgeman, 17, completed all of his Grade 12 courses online at the ‘Pats School’ through Regina Catholic Online Learning, maintaining a overall grade point average of 92.75%.
The 6-foot-4, 197 lb. right-shot defenceman was a remarkable student this past year, achieving such high grades with no in-class instruction, working countless hours between games and practices to study for exams, and completing homework on the road. The discipline and motivation that Bridgeman exhibited was outstanding, allowing himself to complete his semester one courses two months before the January deadline.
During the school year, the Regina, Sask. product won the ‘Pats School’ Academic Player of the Month twice, and was later named the Pats Academic Player of the Year.
Bridgeman went about his academic business with an outstanding attitude and set a great example for the other players within the class. His organization, maturity, responsibility and cooperation with teachers and coaches made him a strong team player in both the classroom, in the community and around the rink.
In addition, Bridgeman also made time for community events while juggling school and hockey, representing the Pats in an incredible way.
Bridgeman has now been nominated for the Doc Seaman Award for the 2023-24 WHL Scholastic Player of the Year.
He will graduate from Miller Comprehension Catholic School in June.
