Pats Ink German Defenceman Manuel Schams to WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement
Regina, Sask. – The Regina Pats Hockey Club have signed 2006-born defenceman Manuel Schams to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.
“We’re extremely excited to have selected Manuel and look forward to seeing him in a Regina Pats sweater,” said Pats GM Dale Derkatch on Monday. “Schams is a strong-skating defenceman who plays with confidence and purpose. He battles hard in every zone, defends and transitions the puck up the ice quickly and accurately.”
The Pats selected the 6-foot-2, 201-pound blueliner with the 129th overall pick in the third round of the 2025 CHL Import Draft earlier this month.
Schams, 19, registered four goals, 12 assists, and 16 points in 15 games playing for the Jungadler Mannheim U20 during the 2024-25 season. Internationally, the left-shot defenceman has represented Germany at the U17 and U18 levels, competing on a global stage.
The Leipzig, GER, native brings a blend of strong mobility, physicality, and poise to the Pats’ back end.
Schams is expected to join the Pats for training camp later this summer.
