GAME DAY: Hurricanes Welcome Oil Kings in Final Regular Season Home Game
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes welcome the Edmonton Oil Kings in the final of a season-long six-game homestand tonight at 7:00pm in their final home game of the regular season at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena.
The Hurricanes (41-19-3-2) enter having had their nine-game point streak end last Saturday with a 3-1 loss to the Calgary Hitmen at home. Miguel Marques scored the lone goal while Jackson Unger made 23-saves in the defeat. Lethbridge went 1/2 on the power play while going 1/1 on the penalty kill. The ‘Canes enter tonight with a 24-7-2-0 record at home this season while having gone 3-1-1-0 in the first five games of a six-game homestand.
The Oil Kings (36-26-2-2) enter after earning a convincing 8-4 victory in Calgary against the Hitmen on Sunday afternoon. Marshall Finnie scored twice while Lukas Sawchyn, Gracyn Sawchyn, Miroslav Holinka, Blake Fiddler, Rylen Roersma and Joe Iginla scored the others in the win; Ethan Simcoe made 42-saves in the victory as Edmonton was outshot 46-29 in the game. The Oil Kings enter tonight with a 16-14-2-1 record on the road this year.
Tonight will be the final of eight regular season meetings between the Hurricanes and Oil Kings; Lethbridge has posted a 3-4-0-0 record against Edmonton this season. Home Ice Advantage: Lethbridge will finish fourth in the Eastern Conference standings and will hold home-ice advantage in the first round of the WHL Playoffs. It marks the first time since 2019 that the ‘Canes will open the post-season at home. He is the third highest scoring active player in the WHL trailing Andrew Cristall and Riley Heidt. His 331 points ranks him tied for 103rd all-time in WHL scoring tied with former Hurricane Shane Willis.
Stingy D: The Hurricanes enter play tonight as the third-best defensive team in the entire WHL allowing just 2.83 goals against per game, trailing Everett (2.67) and Calgary (2.71) GAPG. Lethbridge has allowed three-or-less goals in 23 of 31 games while allowing two-or-less in 18 of those 31 games. The ‘Canes have allowed three-or-less goals against in 32 of their last 43 games.
