GAME DAY: Hurricanes Open Two-Game Saskatchewan Trip in Moose Jaw
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes continue a road-heavy start to the season tonight as they open a two-game Saskatchewan road trip in Moose Jaw against the Warriors at 7:00pm at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.
The Hurricanes (5-2-1-0) after after suffering a 1-0 overtime loss to the Brandon Wheat Kings on Wednesday at the ENMAX Centre. Harrison Meneghin was superb making 33-saves in the defeat while it was the first time the ‘Canes were shutout this season. Lethbridge outshot Brandon 36-34 in the game but were 0/6 with the power play while going 5/5 on the penalty kill. The Hurricanes enter with a 3-2-0-0 record on the road this season and sit top spot in the Eastern Conference standings.
The Warriors (5-3-0-0) enter after earning a 5-3 victory over the Calgary Hitmen on Tuesday at home. Five different goal scorers, including Jagger Firkus and Brayden Yager, scored in the win while Denton Mateychuk had two assists in his season debut after returning from the Columbus Blue Jackets. Jackson Unger made 32-saves in the win. Moose Jaw enters second in the Eastern Conference and have posted a 2-1-0-0 home record.
Tonight will be the second of five meetings on the season between the Hurricanes and Warriors. Lethbridge earned a convincing 4-0 win over Moose Jaw last Friday at the ENMAX Centre. The game can be streamed on WHL Live, watched at Browns Socialhouse in Lethbridge or heard on 106.7 ROCK.

VS. WARRIORS: Tonight will be the second of five meetings on the season between the Hurricanes and Warriors. Lethbridge has posted a 1-0-0-0 record against Moose Jaw this season. Thru 8: The Hurricanes enter tonight with a 5-2-1-0 record (11 points) on the season after eight games. The ‘Canes are 2-0-1-0 at home and 3-2-0-0 on the road so far this season. In 2022-2023, the Hurricanes had posted a 3-5-0-0 record after eight games.
In & Out: Lethbridge made a trio of roster moves this week as they added 2006-born forward Cole Cairns to their roster. Cairns was previously drafted in the fourth round by the Portland Winterhawks in 2021. The ‘Canes also waived 2004-born import forward Anton Astashevich while trading 2004-born forward Hayden Smith to the Everett Silvertips in exchange for an eighth-round draft pick in 2027.
Road Heavy: The Hurricanes are in a stretch where they will play six games in nine nights with four of those six games away from home. Of their first 10 regular season games, the ‘Canes schedule includes seven road contests. Lethbridge is 3-2-0-0 so far this season on the road.
Balanced Attack: After eight games on the season, the Hurricanes have scored a total of 26 goals for an average of 3.25 goals per game. Last year, Lethbridge averaged 2.96 goals per game. Canada Coach: Hurricanes Assistant Coach and Assistant General Manager Matt Anholt was named as an Assistant Coach for Hockey Canada for the upcoming World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. Anholt will serve on the coaching staff for Canada Red in Prince Edward Island from November 2-11. It is the second straight season the ‘Canes have had a coach for the U17’s after Ryan Aasman was a Video Coach last year.
Perfect September: The Hurricanes started the season winning all three games in the month of September to start the year with three straight victories. It was the first time since 2008-2009 that the ‘Canes started a season with a perfect 3-0-0-0 record. Lethbridge has posted a 2-2-1-0 record so far in October.
Great Start: After returning from the Minnesota Wild’s Training Camp, goaltender Harrison Meneghin has been tremendous for the Hurricanes. The South Surrey, BC, product has posted a 5-1-1-0 record in seven starts posting a 1.68 goals against average and a .948 saves percentage with one shutout.
New Bench Boss: The Hurricanes announced Bill Peters the 15th head coach in team history on August 30th. Peters, who has served as head coach of the Carolina Hurricanes and Calgary Flames, returns to the WHL for the first time since 2008. He helped guide the Spokane Chiefs to a WHL and Memorial Cup Championship in 2008 before going to professional hockey. He has posted a 117-93-14 record in the WHL.
