Giants Win Thriller In Medicine Hat
Spencer Bennett scored with one tenth of a second left in regulation to give the Vancouver Giants a come from behind 3-2 victory over the Medicine Hat Tigers Tuesday night at The Arena in Medicine Hat. Bennett now has 14 goals and 27 points in 15 games since joining the Giants on December 30, 2010.
Vancouver got off to a tough start, as Kale Kessy scored 2:29 in to put the Tigers up 1-0. Emerson Etem added a shorthanded goal late in the frame to give the home team a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes. It was the Tigers league leading 14th shorthanded goal of the year.
It took nearly 36 minutes, but the Giants finally solved Tyler Bunz in the second period, as Dalton Sward scored his 9th of the year on a wrap around to cut the lead to 2-1 through 40 minutes of play.
Starting the third period on a power play, Vancouver took full advantage. Spencer Bennett picked up his 25th of the year just 33 seconds into the frame to tie the game at 2-2. The rest of the period was back and forth action with the Giants hitting the post twice, but with less than a second left in regulation Bennett would score his second of the game and 26th of the year on a wrap around to give Vancouver a 3-2 win. Mark Segal made 31 saves for his 20th win of the season.
The Giants continue their road trip tomorrow night in Lethbridge. Game time is 6:00pm PST. The pregame show begins at 5:30pm PST on AM 650.
