CHIEFS PICK UP 3-2 WIN IN KELOWNA
The Spokane Chiefs moved within one point of first place in the U.S. Division with a 3-2 win in Kelowna Friday night.
Jared Cowen lifted the Chiefs to a 1-0 lead after the first period with a power play goal from Tyler Johnson and Brenden Kichton at 17:29 mark as Spokane outshot Kelowna 17-3 in the first period.
Kelowna would score two goals at 5:35 and 7:52 of the second period to take a 2-1 lead. Spokane would come right back at 10:19 of the stanza as Levko Koper notched his 30th goal of the season from Dominick Uher and Davis Vandane. It was Koper’s fourth goal in his last two games and foruth in 2 games in Kelowna this season.
The Chiefs would take the lead with their second power play of the night as Kichton scored from the point just 50 seconds into the third period to give Spokane a 3-2 lead. Vandane picked up his 2nd assist of the night and Koper also had a helper on Kichton’s 17th goal of the year. Mac Engel turned away all 13 Kelowna shots in the third period to preserve the Chiefs second win in Kelowna this year.
The Chiefs will play game 4 of their 5 game road swing Saturday night when they travel to Kennewick to face the Tri City Americans in a key U.S. Division game. Mike Boyle will have the call on 790 KJRB beginning with Comcast Hockey Tonight at 6:30pm, with the puck drop at 7pm.
