Pickering and Geekie Headed to Respective AHL Clubs
A pair of Swift Current Broncos are off to their AHL clubs as the Calder Cup Playoffs get underway.
Forward Conor Geekie is headed to Tucson to join the Roadrunners, while Defenceman Owen Pickering is off to join the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
Pickering just finished his third season with the Broncos. The Broncos Captain set career highs in assists and points this season with 46 points and 39 assists to go along with seven goals in 59 games.
As a result of his strong regular season, Pickering was also named to the WHL Central Division’s First All-Star team.
In the playoffs, Pickering managed a goal and six assists for seven points, the most by a defenceman on the team.
Pickering reach 100 points and 100 assists this season in the WHL. He now sits inside the Top-10 in Modern Broncos History (Since 1986/1987) for points and assists by a Defenceman.
Pickering was drafted 21st Overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2022.
Geekie was acquired in January by the Broncos for three players and four draft picks and made an immediate impact with the club. In 29 games with the Broncos, Geekie scored 23 goals and added 27 assists in the regular season for 50 points. He earned 99 points between the Broncos and Wentachee Wild this season, and his 1.80 points-per-game were fourth in the WHL.
Along with Pickering, Geekie was named to the WHL Central Division’s First All-Star team, and was also the Central Division representative for the Player of the Year and is up for the Four Broncos Memorial Trophy.
In the playoffs, Geekie had six goals and three assists for nine points in nine games.
Geekie also represented Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championships this winter, playing in five games, earning three points.
Geekie’s WHL Career has seen him play 215 regular season games, and 43 more in the playoffs. Geekie has 269 regular season points, and another 37 in the playoffs.
Back in 2022, Geekie was made the 11th overall pick in the NHL Draft by the Arizona Coyotes.
