Eger Scores at Home, Broncos Fall to Warriors
The Swift Current Broncos fell to 1-1 in the pre-season on Saturday night after a 7-4 loss to the Moose Jaw Warriors in Assiniboia.
It was a home game for the Warriors, but it felt like a home game for one Bronco. Van Eger, who grew up just over 40km southeast of Assiniboia, and played most of his minor hockey in the town got to play in front of plenty of friends and family.
The Broncos fell behind 2-0, and 3-1 at times before the halfway point of the second period. Billal Noori had the Broncos lone goal at that point. However, the tides did change for a the final 10 minutes of the second period as Eger, Sawyer Dingman, and Mason Fauser all scored to give the Broncos a 4-3 lead.
“Feels great to have to community on my back,” Eger said. “Feels great to score a goal too, in front of my home crowd, in my hometown where I grew up playing hockey, feels phenomenal.”
Moose Jaw would tie things up before the second period ended and in the third, the Warriors would get a pair of powerplays, scoring on both before adding an empty netter to seal things.
“We got off to a little bit of a slow start, they got a couple quick ones on us,” Eger said. “But I felt like we battled back there in the second and third, but they got a couple powerplays and it just didn’t go our way.”
The Broncos will be back in game action on Friday night when they visit the Medicine Hat Tigers in more pre-season action.
