Training Camp Update: Fitness Testing
It’s like Christmas morning in the hockey world. Over 70 players and their families, scouts, management, coaches, and support staff awoke for day one of the hockey season today.
Blades training camp kicked off at SaskTel Centre this morning with player registration, height & weights, and profile photos. From there the players met with the staff, got settled into their respective teams and dressing rooms, and then made their way over to the Elite Pro Performance Centre for fitness testing.
Training camp can make even the 5th year veterans nervous, but there’s no better way to get into the action than pushing your body to it’s physical limits. Only four players made it into the 50 push-up club; Cam Hebig, Zach Ashton, Arjun Atwal, and Brandon Armstrong.
The broad jump saw six players max out including Ethan Mack, Jake Kustra, Chase Wouters, Lukus MacKenzie, Seth Bafaro, and Dryden Michaud. And probably the least favourite part of the day was the shuttle run. Again it was Cam Hebig leading the pack with Chase Wouters and Seth Bafaro rounding out the top three times for the run.
The players have a brief break now before hitting the ice later this afternoon; the first session going at 4:00pm.
The Saskatoon Blades open the 2017-18 WHL regular season at home on Friday, September 22nd versus the Swift Current Broncos. Game time is 7:00pm at SaskTel Centre.
