Blades acquire local product Mathies from Thunderbirds
Saskatoon, SK – The Saskatoon Blades are pleased to announce the acquisition of 2007-born forward Kazden Mathies from the Seattle Thunderbirds in exchange for a 2027 fifth-round pick.
“Our organization is excited to acquire Kazden today,” said Blades associate general manager, Steve Hildebrand, “At the start of the season, we were looking to add to our 2007 forward group and had the opportunity to do so today. Kazden is a cerebral player with offensive upside who can play both centre and wing. We would like to welcome him and his family to Blade City.”
The Martensville, SK product was drafted by the Thunderbirds in the second round (38th overall) of the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft. In 31 games this season, Mathies has five goals, two assists, and eight penalty minutes. The 5-foot-11 winger has 94 career WHL games, scoring 14 goals and four assists for 18 points.
The left-handed shot is expected to join the Blades on their upcoming three-game road trip in Alberta this week. Saskatoon begins their trip Tuesday at the Peavey Mart Centrium against the Red Deer Rebels, followed by a game the next night against the Edmonton Oil Kings before their final game on the trip Friday versus the Calgary Hitmen.
The Blades want to welcome the Mathies family to the organization and look forward to working with Kazden in the Bridge City.
