TOP PROSPECT SKILLS COMPETITION TONIGHT
Kelowna, B.C. – The 2012 Home Hardware CHL / NHL Top Prospects skills competition is set for Tuesday night at Propsera Place in Kelowna, B.C.
The competition features four events, including Fastest Skater, Hardest Shot, Shooting Accuracy and a Show-Down Breakaway competition, and concludes with a 3-on-3 game.
15 players from the Western Hockey League are among the 40 selected to participate in the Home Hardware CHL / NHL Top Prospects event. All 15 will take part in the skills competition on Tuesday.
Five WHL players will participate in the Fastest Skater competition with Lukas Sutter of the Saskatoon Blades and Branden Troock of the Seattle Thunderbirds competing for Team Orr, and Brett Kulak of the Vancouver Giants, Damon Severson of the hometown Kelowna Rockets and Mike Winther of the Prince Albert Raiders competing for Team Cherry.
The Hardest Shot competition also featured five WHL players including Chandler Stephenson of the Regina Pats and Dalton Thrower of the Saskatoon Blades for Team Orr and Ryan Murray of the Everett Silvertips, Coda Gordon of the Swift Current Broncos and Matt Dumba of the Red Deer Rebels for Team Cherry. Rockets’ defenseman Myles Bell, then with the Regina Pats, won the Hardest Shot competition last year, with a shot clocking at 89.4 miles per hour.
Two WHL players will battle in the Shooting Accuracy competition, with Derrick Pouliot of the Portland Winterhawks and Griffin Reinhart of the Edmonton Oil Kings both competing for Team Orr.
The Breakaway competition featured three WHL skaters, including Colton Sissons of the Rockets for Team Orr, and Tim Bozon of the Kamloops Blazers and Dominik Volek of the Regina Pats for Team Cherry. Calgary Hitmen goaltender Chris Dreidger will try and shut the door for Team Orr in the Breakaway contest.
The 2012 Home Hardware CHL / NHL Top Prospects game is set for Wednesday night at Prospera Place (7:00pm PT; Sportsnet).
