The Saskatoon Blades (20-11-2-2) welcome the Brandon Wheat Kings (17-11-3-2) to SaskTel Centre Friday for their fourth meeting of the season. The Bridge City Bunch lead the season series 2-1 but dropped the most recent contest at home 4-2 on December 15. Saskatoon picked up a win at home and on the road against the Wheat Kings prior, winning both games 4-3. The second meeting of the season on October 25 required overtime for the Blades to do so at Westoba Place.
Saskatoon dropped their first game of 2025 on New Year’s Day 6-3 at home against the Prince Albert Raiders. Since returning from the Christmas break, the Blue and Gold are 3-1, outscoring opponents 17-12. With two games in-hand, the Blades are tied for first in the Eastern Conference alongside the Medicine Hat Tigers with 44 points.
Who to Watch
20-year-old forward Tanner Scott was acquired by the Blades Thursday in a blockbuster deal with the Victoria Royals. The 5-foot-8 winger came to Saskatoon along with two second-round picks in exchange for WHL senior Brandon Lisowsky and a 2028 fifth-round pick. Scott’s expected to make his Blades debut tonight, bringing six goals and ten assists in 25 games with Victoria. The Sherwood Park, AB product scored a career-high in goals (19), assists (37), and points (56) in 68 games last year with the Royals.
Bethune, SK product Ben Riche scored two goals in Wednesday’s loss to the Raiders. The 19-year-old centre extended his point streak to six games, scoring six goals and five assists in that span. Riche leads the Blue and Gold in scoring with career highs in goals (23), assists (27), and points (50) in 33 games.
Rookie centre Cooper Williams has goals in back-to-back games. The 2008-born forward is sixth in WHL rookie scoring with eight goals and 16 assists in 35 games.
