Blades Meet Tips On Breast Cancer Awareness Night
The Saskatoon Blades (5-8-0-0) are looking to return to the win column tonight as they play host to the Everett Silvertips (4-7-0-1).
The Blades are hoping a return to home ice will get them back on the right foot, one night after falling 2-1 in Swift Current to the Broncos despite throwing 44 shots on goal in that game. The Blades fell despite opening the scoring in the game, with Lukas Sutter giving Saskatoon a 1-0 lead before the game was even 5 minutes old. But, former Blade Levi Bews tied it up shortly after and Graham Black eventually scored the game-winner in the 3rd period for Swift Current as the Blades 3-game winning streak came to a halt.
Saskatoon will also be hoping a very special promotion will give them that extra boost they might need tonight, as it’s Breast Cancer Awareness Night! The Blades will be wearing one-time only, brand new, pink jerseys with a special new Saskatoon Blades logo. The jerseys also have the names of season ticket holders friends and family, who have been lost to cancer along the bottom piping of the sweaters.
The game-worn sweaters will be auctioned off during a silent auction throughout the game, with proceeds from the auction going toward the C95 radio marathon. It’s a sharp looking jersey with extra special sentiment and it all goes to a great cause in the end.
Tonight’s game also has a unique storyline to it as former Blades veteran Connor Cox makes his return to Saskatoon. The 20 year old defenceman has spent the last couple of weeks with the Everett Silvertips after they picked him up in the 20 year old waiver draft. He played parts of three seasons in Saskatoon and he’ll surely earn a warm welcome from the fans tonight.
