Blades Drop Close Game To Silvertips
The Saskatoon Blades are entering a stretch of no games in 9 days with a loss to the Everett Silvertips.
The Blades got on the board first during Breast Cancer Awareness Night when Darren Dietz fired and scored on a one-timer at 10:21. It was a powerplay marker, his 5th goal of the season and was assisted by Shane McColgan and Matt Pufahl.
The Blades marker was the lone goal of the 1st period as the shots were 12-10 in favour of Everett.
In the second period, it was the Silvertips who earned the lone goal. Manraj Hayer finished off a play at 14:01 with the assists going to Sandhu and Oslanski, as the score was 1-1 through 40 minutes.
At 6:48 of the third, the Silvertips earned their first lead of the night as Josh Winquist scored his team-leading 7th of the season to make it 2-1. 9 minutes later, the Silvertips extended their lead to 3-1 as Winquist scored his second of the night, finishing off a dazzling 3 on 2 rush.
With under 5 minutes to play, it looked like the Blades luck was up, but a powerplay chance changed things. With Sandhu in the box serving a too many men call and Makarov on the Blades bench, Darren Dietz wired home is 2nd of the night to make it 3-2 with under a minute to play.
But, one goal was as close as they comeback would come. Daniel Cotton made all the important saves as Saskatoon fell 3-2. Cotton made 31 saves in the win, while the Blades lost despite going 2 for 5 on the PP.
The Blades now have 9 days between games, while their next home game doesn’t come until November 9th when they host Regina.
