RECAP: T-Birds soar over Saskatoon Tuesday night
Kent, WA – The Saskatoon Blades ran out of steam in their American adventure finale Tuesday night, falling 4-1 to the Seattle Thunderbirds. The loss leaves the Blades with an 11-15-2-1 record heading home for a three game home stand beginning on Saturday night at SaskTel Centre against the visiting Kamloops Blazers.
Both teams exchanged goals in the opening period; Seth Bafaro getting his second of the season for Saskatoon while Tyler Carpendale scored his 3rd of the season for the home side.
From there, Seattle found another gear leaving the Blades in the dust for the remainder of the game. The T-Birds outshot Saskatoon 17-3 in the middle period, but thanks to the solid play from rookie goalie Nolan Maier the score was still only 2-1 for Seattle.
In the 3rd and final stanza Dillon Hamaliuk increased Seattle’s lead to 3-1 off a turnover in the Saskatoon zone. The Blades made a late push with the net empty but failed to get anything by Matt Berlin. The Seattle defence– lead by former Blade Turner Ottenbreit who was named the first star of the game– smothered Saskatoon’s top line keeping Cam Hebig & co. off the score sheet.
Next up for the Blades is a pair of weekend games at SaskTel Centre. First on the docket are the Kamloops Blazers on Saturday for “Girls Rock Night” at 7:00pm. Then on Sunday afternoon the Prince Albert Raiders make their first trip to the Bridge City this season. It’s the Blades annual Teddy Bear Toss game presented by the Brick, which will also feature a post-game family skate. Puck drop is 2:00pm.
