Last time out
The Blades return home after a 1-1 Southern Alberta road trip last weekend. After trailing 3-0 in the first period last Friday against the Lethbridge Hurricanes, Saskatoon scored five unanswered goals to win 5-3. Blue Jackets prospect Gardner came in for relief of Ethan McCallum and stopped all 17 shots against. It wasn’t the same fate for the Blue and Gold the next night in Medicine Hat as they fell 4-1 to the defending WHL Champion Tigers. Tonight marks the Blades’ second home game of the season. Saskatoon previously defeated the East Division’s top Prince Albert Raiders 3-2 in overtime on Saturday, Sept. 20 in the home opener. Entering this evening 2-2 on the season, Saskatoon sits seventh in the Eastern Conference with four points.
The Good Guys
20-year-old alternate captain Rowan Calvert extended his point streak to four games with the lone goal in Saturday’s loss to Medicine Hat. The Moose Jaw, SK native leads the team in points with four goals and one assist through four games. Calvert has a goal on the man-advantage this season after scoring 16 last year on the powerplay, tied for second in the WHL in 2024-25. Fellow 20-year-old forward Dominik Petr extended his point streak to four games with an assist on Calvert’s goal. Petr has two goals and two assists through four games this season.
The opposition
The Rebels enter tonight’s contest eighth in the Eastern Conference with a 1-2-0-0 record. The visitors picked up their first win of the season on Saturday at home against the Hurricanes in a 4-2 victory. Newly named captain Talon Brigley scored the game-winner 3:42 into the third period, giving him a team-leading three points (1G, 2A) in three games on the season. Minnesota Wild prospect Chase Wutzke returned between the pipes for Red Deer in the win, stopping 16 shots en route to his first win of the season.
