Blades’ Gardner and Olsen sticking it to diabetes at Chief Whitecap School
Chief Whitecap School welcomed U9B Comets player Eva Houle, along with Saskatoon Blades forward Zach Olsen and goalie Evan Gardner on Wednesday to share their personal journeys living with Type 1 Diabetes. Speaking to select grades and staff during the assembly, all three individuals offered an inspiring and educational presentation aimed at raising awareness, building understanding, and empowering young people who may be living with or learning about the disease.
“It’s powerful to connect with young people and show them that adversity doesn’t define you,” said Gardner, “We hope our visit encourages students to be compassionate and supportive toward anyone facing health challenges.”
Last year, Gardner designed a custom goalie mask, which he wore in a 4-1 victory in November 2024 against the Swift Current Broncos. The Columbus Blue Jackets prospect later auctioned off the mask in support of Diabetes Saskatchewan, raising $4,650 in the process.
The Blades would like to thank Chief Whitecap School and the Houle family for allowing Zach and Evan to share their stories!
