Wednesday Highlights: Hounds muzzle Wolves for fourth straight win
SOO 6, SUDBURY 3
The Soo Greyhounds extended their winning streak to four games in Wednesday’s lone matchup, defeating the Sudbury Wolves 6-3 at home. Third-year Greyhound Cole MacKay (15, 16) took advantage of a turnover to get his team on the board just 1:10 in, before Jaromir Pytlik (14) and Zack Trott (9) rounded out the first period to give the Soo a 3-0 start. MacKay earned another goal nearly two and a half minutes into the second before OHL veteran David Levin (15, 16) snapped one of his own past Bailey Brkin for Sudbury’s first. Jaden Peca (11) widened the Soo’s lead early to open the third. A successful shorthanded penalty shot from Levin earned the Wolves one more before Peter Stratis’ (1) first on the season made it a two-goal game. The final marker would come from Rory Kerins (15) with less than five minutes remaining to give the Greyhounds their sixth and final goal. Brkin put up a 27-save performance in his fourth straight win, while Christian Purboo saved 37 of the Greyhounds’ 40 shots. The Central Division-leading Wolves see a four-game winning streak snapped, dropping them to 18-12-1-0 on the season. Another win improves the Soo to 14-15-2-0 with 30 points, maintaining their fourth place slot in the West Division.
