Senators prospect Matthew Andonovski returns to Rangers
The Ottawa Senators have announced that they have reassigned defenceman Matthew Andonovski to the Kitchener Rangers. Andonovski earned a spot with the AHL’s Belleville Senators out of training camp and appeared in three games with Ottawa’s affiliate. A fifth‑round pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, he signed his Entry‑Level Contract in July 2024.
After the @OHLRangers morning skate this morning, I asked Matt Andonovski how he felt walking back into the Aud.
He smiled and said: “Happy. Excited.” pic.twitter.com/klqT5uiYXx

While the move adds a veteran presence to the Rangers’ blue line, it also leaves the club with four overage skaters, which is one above the allowable limit, as the January 8th overage trade deadline approaches.

“We are excited to welcome Ando back to our team,” said Kitchener Rangers General Manager Mike McKenzie. “He brings experience and a presence on and off the ice that will be important to our team in the second half. This leaves us with four overage players, and a situation we will have to address in the next week.”
The Markham, Ontario native and last year’s captain returns as the longest‑tenured Ranger, having played 240 games over four seasons and recording 73 points (13-60–73). He also led all OHL players in penalty minutes last season with 132.
Although Andonovski has rejoined the team, reporter Josh Brown notes that he will not return to the lineup until he has a few more practices under his belt. The Rangers’ next game is scheduled for Friday, January 10th.
