Petes sign defenceman James Buchan

Peterborough Petes General Manager and Vice President of Operations Michael Oke announced today that the team has signed defenceman James Buchan to an OHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.

“James is a big, strong, left-shot defenceman who we watched during his U16 season and last year at St. Paul’s,” noted Oke. “He had a great summer, making an impact at Development Camp in June, and more recently in Training Camp and the preseason. We believe that James possesses the qualities that we look for in a Peterborough Pete, both on and off the ice.” 

Buchan, a 2009-born defenceman from Georgetown, ON, attended Petes Training Camp in August as a free agent invite. Last season, Buchan played for St. Paul’s School in New Hampshire, scoring 4 goals and adding 19 assists for 23 points in 31 games. His 23 points led the team’s defencemen in scoring. Before joining St. Paul’s School, he played in the Oakville Rangers AAA system. Buchan has featured in three preseason games for the Petes this season, recording six shots on goal.

“James is a huge find by our scouting staff for the Petes,” continued Oke. “This free agent signing is an important piece for the future of our club. He is an excellent prospect that is a welcomed addition to the Peterborough Petes.”
