Monday Highlights: MacDonald completes Knights comeback in OT
Owen MacDonald extended his goal scoring streak to five games 2:58 into overtime, leading the London Knights back from a three-goal deficit for a 6-5 victory in Game 3 of the Rogers OHL Championship Series.
MacDonald took a centering feed from linemate J.J. Piccinich to beat an outstretched Alex Nedeljkovic for his fifth of the playoffs, giving the Knights a 3-0 series lead with a chance to advance to their fourth MasterCard Memorial Cup in five years with a win in Game 4 on Wednesday.
London’s 12th straight win ties an OHL playoff record set by the 1988 Windsor Spitfires.
Matthew Tkachuk’s 20th of the playoffs opened the scoring just 32 seconds into the first period, but the IceDogs roared back on home ice, scoring four times before the first period expired. Ryan Mantha, Stephen Harper, Vince Dunn and Josh Ho-Sang put the Dogs up 4-1 before a late shorthanded goal from London’s Cliff Pu at 19:07 narrowed the gap to two goals.

IceDogs defenceman Aleksandar Mikulovich reinstated the three goal lead 6:31 into the second as Niagara led 5-2 approaching the midway point of the game.
From there, the Knights took over, outshooting the IceDogs 35-13 the rest of the way.
Goals from Olli Juolevi, Christian Dvorak and Victor Mete drew London even before MacDonald completed the comeback in the early stages of overtime.
Knights defenceman Jacob Graves earned third star honours with four assists in the win while Niagara’s Pavel Jenys’ three assists earned him second star recognition. MacDonald was the game’s first star, continuing his stellar series as the hero on Monday.
