Steelheads acquire Canucks prospect Vilmer Alriksson
The Brampton Steelheads are in search of some answers following three losses last week paired with the departures of Canadian World Junior representatives Porter Martone and Jack Ivankovic.
Steelheads head coach and GM James Richmond pulled the trigger on a deal with the Guelph Storm Monday morning that sees 6-foot-6, 234Ib. Swedish left-wing Vilmer Alriksson come to Brampton. The Vancouver Canucks fourth round pick in 2023 has 23 points (11-12–23) through 26 games and was acquired for three draft picks including a third (Ottawa’s) in 2025, second (Brantford’s) in 2026 and third (Saginaw’s) in 2027.
Guelph originally acquired Alriksson with the 34th pick of the 2023 CHL Import Draft. The 19-year-old native of Enebyberg, Sweden compiled 56 points (28-28–56) over parts of two seasons with Guelph.
The Steelheads parted ways with Czech winger Martin Vaculik to make room for Alriksson on the roster. Vaculik recorded seven points (1-6–7) in 20 games for Brampton.
Alriksson joins the Steelheads (14-12-4-0) on Wednesday night in Brantford.
