Generals trade Haoxi Wang to Niagara IceDogs
The Oshawa Generals and Niagara IceDogs have completed a trade that sees defenceman Haoxi Wang heading to Niagara in exchange for defenceman Artem Frolov and a package of future draft picks.
Wang joined the Generals midway through the 2024–25 season following the CHL’s NCAA eligibility changes and quickly became a regular on the blue line. In 60 games with Oshawa, the 6-foot-5 defenceman helped the club reach the OHL Championship Series for a second straight season. This year, Wang has recorded 13 points in 28 games and was selected by the San Jose Sharks in the second round of the 2025 NHL Draft.
“There are no words to describe how much this organization has meant to me,” said Wang. “I am beyond grateful for everything from top to bottom. I have made friendships that will last a lifetime.”
Coming back to Oshawa is Artem Frolov, who is in his third OHL season after time with both Niagara and Flint. The defenceman has appeared in 170 career OHL games, recording five goals and 25 assists, and has been used in a variety of roles, including on the penalty kill.
Along with Frolov, the Generals receive Niagara’s fourth-round pick in 2026, a sixth-round pick in 2027 (via Flint), and a third-round pick in 2029 (via Flint).
Niagara adds Wang to a blue line they believe can make a push down the stretch, while Oshawa brings in a steady defenceman and adds draft capital for the seasons ahead.
