Otters sign Gairin Michalski
Erie, Pennsylvania – General Manager Dave Brown and Director of Hockey Operations Scott Grieve has announced that defenceman Gairin Michalski has been signed to an OHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.
The blueliner is a native of Pittsburgh and comes to Erie as a free agent after splitting time a season ago with the Trail Smoke Eaters in the BCHL and the Tri-City Storm in the USHL. In a combined 42 games he collected 12 points (5G+7A) and was a +3.
Following an invite to Erie’s Training Camp, the 5’9 defender impressed and ended up skating in four preseason games for the Otters and picked up an assist.
Michalski spoke with excitement about signing with the Otters and what it means to him to have the chance to play so close to home.
“I’ve always dreamed of playing in the OHL, so getting the opportunity to play for an amazing organization, the Erie Otters, with such a special group of guys is something I’m really excited about,” Michalski said. “Being able to be so close to home and in front of such a great fan base makes it even more special. I’m extremely grateful and cannot wait to get started.”
Grieve remarked on Michalski’s signing and spoke about what he will bring to the organization.
“Gairin came into Erie as a free agent invite and has impressed us through each step of training camp and the preseason,” Grieve said. “Gairin is a good puck mover with the ability to create offense. We welcome Gairin and his family to the Otters.
