Stewart returns to Saginaw in trade with Barrie

The Saginaw Spirit have completed a trade with the Barrie Colts to bring forward Bode Stewart back to the organization.

Saginaw acquires Stewart in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2026 OHL Priority Selection (Kingston).

“We’re excited to have Bode back with us,” said Spirit General Manager Dave Drinkill. “It’s great to be able to get a player we’re already familiar with and one who knows our system from his younger days. We believe his experience in our league will be very valuable in our locker room and on the ice. It will be exciting to see him back in a Spirit uniform in a bit of a full circle moment.”

Stewart was originally selected by the Spirit 24th overall in the 2022 OHL Priority Selection. During his rookie season in Saginaw, he appeared in 41 games, recording two goals and two assists before being traded to the Colts in June 2023.

Now 20, the Oakville, Ontario native enjoyed his most productive OHL season last year with Barrie, posting six goals and 29 assists for 35 points in 65 games. Across his time with both Saginaw and Barrie, Stewart has appeared in 199 career OHL games, totaling 24 goals and 53 assists for 77 points.

At the international level, Stewart represented Canada at the U17 World Hockey Challenge as a 17-year-old, recording a goal in seven games with Team Canada Black.

Stewart will wear number 27 with the Spirit as he rejoins the club.

From Barrie’s perspective, the move returns a future draft asset while concluding Stewart’s tenure with the Colts. Barrie Vice President and General Manager Marty Williamson thanked Stewart for his contributions, noting his speed, playmaking ability, and competitiveness during his time with the organization, and wished him success in Saginaw.
