Owen Sound Blanks Sarnia 4-0
By Carl Chimenti
Carter George stopped all 26 shots and was named as the first star and the Owen Sound Attack shut-out the Sarnia Sting 4-0 on Hockey Fights Cancer night, in front of 3,768, Friday evening at the Hive.
For most of the game Sarnia was the better team but they were frustrated as George continued to make save after save. The Sting held the Attack with-out a shot from 11:54 of the first period until the 16:22 mark of the second period and in the end out-shot Owen Sound 26-20. Four different players scored for the Attack. Declan Waddick (3rd) and Ethan Burroughs (8th) in the first period. Cedrick Guindon (10th) (Montreal Canadiens) and Sarnia native Landen Hookey (7th) in the third period. Hookey and Waddick were selected as the second and third stars respectively. Sam Sedley and Servic Petrovsky (Minnesota Wild) had a pair of assists each. Sting goaltender Nick Surzycia played well enough to win as he turned away 16 of 20 shots.
Sarnia’s next game will be Sunday afternoon vs the FlintFirebirds at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena, with puck drop scheduled to be at 2:05pm.
The Sting went 0/6 on the power-play while the Attack went 1/3 with the man-advantage. The Owen Sound Attack scored the only two goals in the opening period as they out-shot Sarnia 11-8. Waddick (3rd) opened the scoring at 5:03 from Sedley. Burroughs (8th) scored a power-play goal at 8:07 to make it 2-0, from Petrovsky and Sedley. The Sting had three opportunities with the man-advantage but failed to convert on the first two, with the third caring over into the second period. It was a strong defensive effort for the Sting in a scoreless second period as they out-shot the Attack 7-3. Sarnia had numerous scoring chances including a penalty shot awarded to Tyson Doucette but only an outstanding save from George kept the Sting off the scoreboard.
