Stamkos Named To U-17 Team

Team Ontario Director of Operations Mike Futa along with Head Coach Marty Williamson named the 20 man roster for Ontario’s U-17 team that will compete in the Canada Winter Games.

Among the players named to the roster and to no ones surprise was Sting forward and first overall pick in the 2006 OHL Priority Selection Steven Stamkos.

Stamkos currently leads the Sting and all 1990 born players in goals (25) and points (40).

In the past the U-17 team participated in the World U-17 Challenge but this year will compete in the Canada Winter Games set to take place on February 24 and closing March 1, 2007.  The games will be hosted in Whitehorse.

Last season the Sting had a pair of players (Mark Katic and Daniel Lombardi) make the team that participated in Regina at the World Championships.  Katic would go on to be named a tournament All-Star.
