Toronto, ON – The Sarnia Sting came into Sunday’s game in Toronto looking to cap off a perfect weekend having won two in a row first in Windsor on Thursday and then taking down the Otters in Erie on Saturday.
The Sting backed by one of the league’s most explosive offences would earn their perfect weekend in convincing fashion with a 8-3 victory over the St. Michael’s Majors.
Danny Anger would have a big day for the Sting scoring a pair of goals as he and his linemates Steven Reese and Brandon Mashinter were rewarded on the scoresheet for the first time in a while but the line has been extremely effective for the Sting since being formed a few weeks ago.
Rookie standout Steven Stamkos continued his hot play with a pair of goals as well as he continues to close in on the Sting rookie record for both goals and points. The current record is held by Jeff Heerema who notched 32 goals and had 72 points in his rookie campaign during the 1998-99 season.
Captain Ryan Wilson made a successful return to the building he called home for the first three seasons of his OHL career as he scored a beatiful goal on the powerplay and would add a pair of assists for a three point afternoon in what would be his only visit of the season to St. Michael’s Arena.
The other ex-Major Justin DiBenedetto had a pair of assists.
Rounding out the Sting scoring was the red hot Harrison Reed who know has 6 goals in his last 5 games, Trevor Kell with his 25th and Kyle Tront closed out the scoring at 17:44 of the third period.
Mark Katic had a strong game chipping in with three assists.
Sebastian Dahm making his first start since December 1st was strong when called upon with 26 saves for his 9th win of the season.
The Sting return home now to face the Erie Otters on Thursday night at the SSEC. Game time is 7:35.
