GAME REPORT | Sting Win 12 Consecutive Games, Beat Greyhounds 6-3
The Sarnia Sting hosted the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds on Friday night.
Sarnia was ranked as the number one ranked team in the Canadian Hockey League this week; Sault Ste. Marie was ranked number six, second in the Ontario Hockey League. As the province’s top two teams, it made for a big battle at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.
Right off the bat, just thirty seconds in, Sean Josling scored the Sting’s first goal of the game. Josling received a slick pass from linemate Hugo Leufvenius, pulled the puck in front, and sent it past Soo goaltender Matthew Villalta.
Morgan Frost scored for the Greyhounds midway through the first. After a spirited opening period, the game was tied 1-1.
In the second, Sting captain Jordan Kyrou showed off his acceleration playing four-on-four, scoring a silky, silky breakaway goal.

The Hounds tied the game at 2-2 with a goal from defenceman Conor Timmins a few minutes later.
But then, at a time we’ll say was approximately 8:30 PM Eastern, the clock struck. It was scoring time.
Adam Ruzicka scored his eleventh goal of the season with a sharp shot through the Hounds’ goalie. Jamieson Rees set up the powerplay goal, putting the Sting up 3-2.
It looked like it would be a one goal game heading into the third, but Kyrou had a little more in his bag of tricks. Kyrou scored with less than one second left on the second period game clock, and the Sting were up 4-2 going into the final twenty minutes.
The Greyhounds were quick to find a hot start to the third, coming back within one thanks to a goal from Tim Gettinger. Make it 4-3 for Sarnia.
But, not so fast. Kyrou had even more magic to perform. The OHL’s leading scorer did it again, recording his second hat-trick in the last four games, giving the Sting a 5-3 lead.
With momentum fully on the Sting’s side, Connor Schlichting scored a goal in tight to extend the lead and close things out.
Justin Fazio was once again outstanding in goal. The Sting netminder stopped an incredible 47 of 50 shots faced. Fazio even made a big stop on a Soo penalty shot with ninety seconds remaining. Tonight was Fazio’s tenth win of the season.
The final score was 6-3 for Sarnia.
