Sun and Fun at the Kitchener Fire Open House
The Rangers’ Street Team was on hand Sunday, June 10 as the Kitchener Fire Department opened its headquarters to the community at their annual Open House. The early summer heat did little to dampen the enthusiasm of hundreds of local families who had the opportunity to explore the fire trucks, take in live demonstrations and, of course, check in with their favourite team and take part in some summer hockey fun.
Decked out in plastic fireman’s hats or Rangers ball caps, young fans took to the inflatable shoot cages, where they not only practiced their wrist shots for the upcoming season, but also participated in summer favourites like baseball and football. Among those who tried their hand at quarterback were two little girls who showed up the boys, tossing it through the hole on the first try and exchanging proud high fives with their families.
The kids were equally excited to collect new noisemakers at the Rangers Street Team tent – though not as happy as some parents when they realized they could use the clappers as handheld fans to cool off as the temperature climbed.
“They wore theirs out at the end of the season,” laughed one mother as her sons raced off, new toys in hand. “Plus it’s hot out here, so it helps me too!”
