Catenacci scores winner in 4-3 shoot-out victory

The Kitchener Rangers opened their three game Eastern swing with a 4-3 shootout win over the Kingston Frontenacs. 
 
The Rangers opened the scoring with a powerplay goal by Tobias Rieder at 9:34 of the first period. Rieder converted a cross crease pass from Jason Akeson. Jerry D’Amigo also picked up an assist.
 
Ryan Murphy returned briefly in the first period after being hit by a high stick before leaving for the balance of the game.
 
The Frontenacs made it 1-1 when Tyler Brown picked up a loose puck at the top of the crease and beat Brandon Maxwell at 8:48 of the second period.
 
Eric Ming gave the Rangers a 2-1 lead at 15:00 when he broke around the Kingston defense and beat Frontenac goaltender Franky Palazzese to the glove side. 
 
Andrew Crescenzi increased the Rangers lead to 3-1 when he converted a Michael Catenacci pass at 9:39 of the third period.
 
Kingston answered back when Mitch Gaulton narrowed the margin to 3-2 at 13:08.
 
Michael Fine tied the game when he picked up a deflection off a Rangers defender only to be facing an open net.
 
Overtime remained scoreless.
 
Maxwell was perfect on the shootout with 3 saves on 3 shots while Catenacci scored the winning goal for the Rangers after D’Amigo rang the Rangers only other attempt off the post.
 
The Rangers had a 41-38 shot advantage.

The Rangers travel to Belleville on Saturday, March 5th to play the Bulls at 7:05pm and then go on to visit the Ottawa 67’s on Sunday, March 6th for a 2:00pm stint. The Rangers return home on Friday, March 11th to host the Owen Sound Attack at 7:00pm. Please note that the game time has changed due to the Sportsnet and RDS broadcasts.
