RECAP: Kamzik the Hero as Otter Forward Scores Late Winner to Haunt his Old Squad
Sarnia, Ontario — The Otters’ run of six games in-a-row on the road would take them to Progressive Auto Sales Arena in Sarnia to battle the Sting. Looking to bounce back following a tough defeat Thursday, Erie would look to end this leg of the trip on a high-note and take two points back to the Flagship City.
The Sting won the first period face off and pushed towards Erie’s David Egorov at the net but the Otters would earn the first shot on goal. Erie led Sarnia 5-1 in shots on goal in the first six minutes of play. With just under 10 minutes left in the first, Jack Torr (5) earned his first goal as an Otter and the lead. The Sting responded shortly after with a goal by Chase Gaughan (2) to tie the game 1-1. Parker Holmes (3) pushed the Sting into the lead 2-1 with just under nine minutes in the period. Erie led Sarnia 16-9 in shots on goal entering the first intermission.
The Otters started with the puck in the second, stretching the ice into the Sting’s blue paint. Parker Holmes (4) found the net once again for Sarnia with a quick putback goal with seven and a half minutes left in the second. Putting the Otters back within one was Ulysses Lombardi (2) scoring off of an assist by Lucas Ambrosio. The game went to four-on-four with just over five minutes remaining as the Sting continued to lead 3-2. Erie ended the second period in a power play and continued to lead Sarnia 23-18 in shots on goal.
Once again winning the faceoff was the Otters, starting the third. Mclean Agrette passed the puck down the ice to Michael Dec (10) who completed the play to tie the game 3-3 with 13 minutes left in regulation. A clutch goal by Kase Kamzik (GWG, 2) put the Otters into the lead 4-3 with a minute and a half remaining, forcing an empty net from the Sting. The teams tied 28-28 in shots on goal to end the game.
The Otters will hit the road once again bound for Sault Ste. Marie, Flint and Saginaw on Wednesday, Friday and next Saturday. Erie will return home for the School Day Game as they battle the Kitchener Rangers on Thursday, November 12. For tickets and more information, head to Ottershockey.com.
