RELEASE: Erie Otters Sign Kris Mallette to Contract Extension Through 2028/29 Season
Erie, Pennsylvania — The Erie Otters have found their guy behind the bench and he’s here to stay for many years to come.
General Manager Dave Brown announced today that Head Coach Kris Mallette has been signed to a contract extension that will keep him in Erie through the 2028-29 season.
Mallette came to Erie following a lengthy stint with the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League part-way through the 2024-25 season joining the team in February and overseeing their return to the second round of the OHL playoffs.
Last season, he oversaw a year full of change, keeping the ship steady through an up-and-down season.
The Kelowna, British Columbia native has changed the culture in Erie all while becoming a fan favorite in the process.
Mallette made his mark in Erie instantly following a dust-up with the Peterborough Petes in March of 2025 that led to him receiving his own bobblehead giveaway in November last season against the very same opponent.
This past Sunday, October 25, 2026 was Mallette’s 100th game behind the bench for the Otters, a milestone that he will continue to build on.
The Otters’ Head Coach spoke on the extension and his excitement to remain with the Otters for the foreseeable future.
“I want to thank the Waters family and management for their continued belief in me,” Mallette said. “Staying here was a priority as Erie has become our home and the support from our fans since day one has been unmatched. We have built a strong foundation here and I’m fully committed to giving this team and city everything I’ve got. I’m excited to extend my time here and keep building something special.”
The Erie Otters congratulate Kris Mallette on his contract extension and look forward to seeing him behind the bench for seasons to come.
