The Erie Otters, proud members of the Ontario Hockey League, are seeking motivated individuals to fill a number of seasonal roles on an internship basis. While most positions are preferred to college students seeking internship credit, these positions are open to passionate individuals who wish to get professional experience in the world of sports to work toward a career in the field.

ERIE OTTERS HOCKEY CLUB
COMMUNICATIONS INTERN
The Erie Otters seek a driven student or recent graduate eager to dive into every corner of professional sports communications. In this role, you’ll be trained on and rotate through all facets of our media department—media relations, journalism, broadcast production, public and community relations, podcasting, and more. Through hands-on workshops and shadowing seasoned staff, you’ll gain real-world experience, learn to step into different roles as needed, and even get the chance to co-host our team podcast! Th
is unpaid internship (for credit) requires a flexible schedule, a self-starter attitude, and professionalism on-and-off-the-ice.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate in training sessions on media relations, press-release writing, crisis communications, and broadcast fundamentals.
- Assist camera operators, audio technicians, and graphics teams during home games; help monitor live feeds for remote road-game coverage.
- Coordinate player appearances, youth events, and charity fundraisers—managing schedules, promotional materials, and post-event wrap-ups.
- Write “Behind the Scenes” features, website blog posts, and social media teasers; schedule and publish alongside the social team.
- Assemble press materials (media guides, stat sheets), manage credential requests, and update contact lists as needed.
- Support the Ott-The Record podcast by researching topics, drafting questions, and running live audio/QC.
REQUIREMENTS
- Currently enrolled in or recent graduate of a Communications, PR, Journalism, or related program.
- Flexible schedule: evenings, weekends, and holidays, required for all home games; occasional remote support for away games as needed.
- Dependable vehicle and valid driver’s license for in-person events.
- Must supply own laptop for work.
- Strong written and verbal communication; professional demeanor when interacting with staff, media, and community partners.
- Ability to multitask, take direction, and pivot quickly in a fast-paced environment.
- Business-casual attire (or uniform as directed by the Otters) for in-arena duties.

ERIE OTTERS HOCKEY CLUB
MEDIA RELATIONS & COPY INTERN
The Erie Otters are looking for a student or recent graduate with strong writing skills and a passion for sports media to join our Media Relations team. In this role, you’ll create a variety of written content—game previews, post-game recaps, player and team features, “Three Stars” posts, and real-time stat releases—for use on social media, our website, in-arena screens, and with media partners. You’ll also help set up and tear down the press box, assist during pre-and post-game media availabilities, and learn directly from our team through hands-on mentorship. This unpaid internship (for credit) requires a flexible schedule, a self-starter attitude, and professionalism on-and off-the-ice.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Produce 2–3 AP-style articles per week for the website, in-arena boards, and media partners.
- Draft Q&A scripts, log quotes during media availabilities, and turn them into feature stories or social captions.
- Send live period stats to broadcasters, PA, digital screens, and mobile app as requested.
- Configure workstations (laptops, printers, headsets, etc) in the media area; tear down and secure equipment post-game.
- Assist the Media Relations Manager with press-release distribution, crisis-communication prep, and credential tracking.
- Draft episode outlines and manage show notes for podcast releases.
REQUIREMENTS
- Flexible schedule: available for irregular hours, various shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays to cover all 2025-26 home games.
- Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license for arena commutes.
- Own laptop or tablet; ability to work remotely for road-game coverage.
- Comfortable multitasking—watch the game on CHL TV or FloHockey and write a press release simultaneously (multiple screens recommended).
- Proficient writing skills, strong listening, and the ability to follow directions precisely.
- Professional demeanor when interacting with media, players, and staff.
- Business attire, or team uniform required for all in-arena duties as defined by the team.
- Unpaid position; eligible for college credit if needed.

ERIE OTTERS HOCKEY CLUB
SOCIAL MEDIA CONTENT INTERN
The Erie Otters seek a motivated student or recent graduate to join our social media team for the 2025–26 season. In this role, you’ll help plan and execute engaging campaigns across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter/X and our web/app platforms—both in advance and live during home and away games. You’ll gain hands-on experience with real-time content creation (graphics, photography, videography), publishing, and analytics, all while collaborating with marketing and production teams to highlight players, coaches, the Otters brand, promotions, and community events.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Post real-time updates, highlights, and behind-the-scenes clips on multiple platforms during home and away games.
- Edit and publish templated graphics using Photoshop or equivalent tool.
- Shoot, edit, and publish 3–5 TikTok’s or Instagram Reels per week, adapting raw footage into engaging clips.
- Assist in the rollout of theme-night and promotional campaigns—brainstorm ideas, draft copy, and tag assets for scheduling.
- Photograph and record video at Otters events (fan fests, appearances), then publish or hand off assets for social and web use in real time.
- Track engagement metrics (reach, impressions, likes, shares) in SproutSocial or native dashboards; deliver bi-weekly insights to the marketing team.
- Monitor emerging digital trends—AR filters, platform features, social challenges—and propose at least one new content initiative each month.
- Coordinate with other interns and staff to ensure seamless coverage—align posting schedules, share assets, and support cross-department promotions.
REQUIREMENTS
- Must be available through the regular season from September 25 – May 26.
- Available for game nights, weekends, and holidays throughout the season (home and remote away coverage).
- Excellent people skills, reliability, and punctuality in a fast-paced sports environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, all major social-media platforms, Adobe Premiere Pro, and Photoshop.
- Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative, and collaborate with a team of interns.
- Positive, professional attitude and commitment to Otters brand values.
- Own laptop/tablet and reliable internet connection for content creation and analytics monitoring.
- Unpaid position; eligible for college credit if required by your institution.

ERIE OTTERS HOCKEY CLUB
MEDIA AND CREATIVE SERVICES INTERN
The Media and Creative Services Intern is a seasonal position that will assist the Otters front office staff in managing the heartbeat of the Otters brand through dynamic, consistent design and content solutions across all platforms and mediums. The Media and Creative Services Intern will leverage their passion for sports, entertainment, and digital media to enhance and drive fan conversations and interactions in-arena, in the community and on social media.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- • Manage, organize and maintain RAW media assets in a consistent and predictable manner of players, events, promotions, mascot, etc. for future marketing purposes.• Assist with conceptualizing, planning, and executing original creative design solutions for all departments of the Otters in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.• Assist in production of content for the Otters social media platforms, through photography, video, copywriting and graphic design.• Provide support to marketing & promotions, sponsorship and group sales departments as needed.
• Other duties and responsibilities as needed and/or assigned by Digital Content Manager.
REQUIREMENTS

An Ideal Candidate Would Have:
• Digital Media, Graphic Design, Communications Arts or related majors preferred Bachelor’s Degree or working toward a degree required.
• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere).
• Passion for social media and ability to execute a successful social media strategy that aligns with organizational goals.
• Excellent design skills with a strong focus on typography, layout and visual hierarchy.
• Working Knowledge of Daktronics video board systems and equipment preferred.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Resourcefulness, ability to take initiative and to work independently
• Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask effectively and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Highly motivated team player with a positive attitude and strong customer service skills.
• Must work all Erie Otters home games, flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
