Firebirds Name Coulson Pitre Sixth Captain in Franchise History
FLINT, Mich. – The Flint Firebirds and head coach Paul Flache announced on Wednesday that Coulson Pitre has been named the sixth captain in franchise history.
Pitre, who had been wearing an A as an alternate captain, is currently second on the team with 37 points via 17 goals and 20 assists in 36 games. He was selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the third round of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. Over three seasons with the Firebirds, the Stouffville, Ontario native has 65 goals and 76 assists in 147 games.
“Coulson is the ultimate competitor on the ice and his play does all the talking,” Flache said. “He is a warrior that leads by example, wears his heart on his sleeve and exemplifies what a Firebird should be. We are in a great position with him leading the group down the stretch run.”
Pitre replaces Zacharie Giroux, who was traded to the Sudbury Wolves on Tuesday in advance of the OHL trade deadline. He joins Giroux (2023-24), Brennan Othmann (2021-22), Ty Dellandrea (2018-20), Jalen Smereck (2017-18) and Alex Peters (2015-17) on the list of Firebirds captains.
Pitre will wear the C on his sweater for the first time on Wednesday night when the Firebirds host the Owen Sound Attack. It’s a Buy One Get One Wednesday; any fan who buys a ticket to the game can get a second ticket of equal or lesser value for free. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Dort Financial Center.
