Firebirds Acquire Haul of Draft Picks From Saginaw for Ethan Hay
FLINT, Mich. – The Flint Firebirds announced on Wednesday that the team has traded center Ethan Hay and a 2024 draft choice to the Saginaw Spirit in exchange for six draft picks.
The Firebirds will receive Saginaw’s 2024 second-round pick, the Kitchener Rangers’ 2027 second-round pick, the North Bay Battalion’s 2024 third-round pick, the Barrie Colts’ 2026 third-round pick, Saginaw’s 2027 fifth-round pick and the Sarnia Sting’s 2025 seventh-round pick. In addition to Hay, Flint is sending Sarnia’s 2024 sixth-round pick to the Spirit.
“Ethan came to us and expressed his desire for a change of scenery, thinking it would be in his best interest,” Firebirds general manager Dave McParlan said. “While it’s always hard to see a good player and teammate exit, we are understanding of his wishes. The pile of assets we received in the deal puts us in a strong position as we look to build a championship-contending team this season.”
Hay, a 2023 seventh-round NHL draft choice of the Tampa Bay Lightning, has two goals and one assist in nine games for Flint this season. During his OHL career, he has 27 goals and 23 assists in 132 games played, all for the Firebirds. He was originally selected by Flint in the third round of the 2021 OHL Priority Selection.
“We would like to thank Ethan for everything he has done for our organization,” McParlan said.
Flint will hit the ice on Wednesday night in Sault Ste. Marie for a midweek tilt with the Soo Greyhounds. The Firebirds then return home on Saturday for the first of two games over the weekend. Saturday night is First Responder’s Appreciation Night, sponsored by Dort Financial Credit Union. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Dort Financial Center.
