The OHL is statistically the #1 player development league for the NHL in the world. In the last five years, the OHL has had 199 players selected in the NHL Draft, leading any other league in the world. There have been 76 first or second-round NHL draft picks out of the OHL, which is the first in the world. By position, 66 defensemen have been selected in the NHL, which is first out of any other league in the world, and 122 forwards have been drafted, which is also first in the world. On opening day this fall, 26.4% of NHL rosters were OHL players, also the first in the world.

In addition, 10 of the last 12 players picked 1st overall in the NHL Draft have come from the CHL, consisting of Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Taylor Hall, John Tavares, Steven Stamkos, Patrick Kane, and Sidney Crosby. Other notable OHL alumni are Wayne Gretzky, Bobby Orr, Mickey Redmond, Brendan Shanahan, and Steve Yzerman.

Since the Flint Firebirds’ inception four seasons ago in 2015, the team has produced 29 NHL-signed or drafted players. More than 300 scouts representing all 32 NHL clubs attended a Firebirds game. The Flint Firebirds are a proud member of the prestigious 20-team Ontario Hockey League. The OHL is one of three leagues that constitute the 60-team Canadian Hockey League (CHL), which is known as the world’s premiere player development league for the NHL. On NHL opening-day rosters in October, 70% of NHL players were CHL alums.

The Dort Financial Center Box Office is open Tuesday thru Friday: 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM.  Evening and Weekend hours vary on the event schedule. Please note all FREE promotional tickets can only be purchased at the Box Office and can not be purchased on Etix or over the phone.
