The Barrie Colts are seeking welcoming and supportive billet families in the Barrie area for the 2026–2027 season. Billet families play a vital role in the development and success of our players, providing a safe, nurturing, and positive home environment that extends far beyond the ice.
While hockey is central to our players’ lives, it is only one aspect of their overall growth. When a young man joins the Barrie Colts, he becomes part of a community that supports his personal, academic, and athletic development. The Billet Family Program is a cornerstone of this experience, helping players transition smoothly to life away from home while fostering responsibility, confidence, and character.
Program Requirements
To provide a safe and supportive environment, each billet family must be able to offer:
-
A private bedroom for the player
-
A dedicated workspace or desk for homework and study
-
Parking availability if the player has a vehicle
-
Access to healthy and nutritious meals
Mutual respect and open communication between the player and billet family are essential. The Barrie Colts encourage ongoing communication among families, coaching staff, players, and parents to ensure a positive and seamless experience for everyone.
Application Process
Prospective billet families are visited by a member of the Barrie Colts staff, who meets with all household members and reviews the room the player will occupy. All adults in the home must undergo a Police Background Check. Placement is carefully determined to ensure the best possible fit, creating a smooth and supportive transition for the player.
