Billet Family Program The Heart Behind the Colts

Behind every player who pulls on a Barrie Colts jersey is a family who opened their front door and made room at their table.

The Barrie Colts are seeking welcoming and supportive billet families in the Barrie area for the 2026–27 season. Our billet families are one of the most vital and cherished parts of this organization — providing a safe, nurturing, and positive home environment that extends far beyond the ice and shapes these young men in ways that last a lifetime.

Hockey is central to our players’ lives, but it is only one part of who they are. When a young man joins the Barrie Colts, he becomes part of a community dedicated to his personal, academic, and athletic growth. The Billet Family Program is a cornerstone of that experience — helping players transition smoothly to life away from home while building the responsibility, confidence, and character that will carry them long after their playing days are over.

What We Ask of Our Billet Families

We ask that our players be welcomed as a member of your family — with the same warmth, the same expectations, and the same care you would extend to your own. In return, our players are expected to respect the values and rules of their billet home at all times.

To provide a safe and supportive environment, billet families are asked to offer:

• A private bedroom for the player
• A dedicated workspace or desk for homework and study
• Access to healthy and nutritious meals
• Parking availability if the player has a vehicle

Mutual respect and open communication between the player and billet family are at the core of every successful placement. The Barrie Colts encourage ongoing communication among billet families, players, parents, and coaching staff throughout the season to ensure a positive and seamless experience for everyone involved.

Billet Family Benefits

The Barrie Colts are proud to offer the following to our billet families in recognition of their incredible commitment to our players and our program:

• Two home game tickets per game for the regular season and playoffs
• Four home game tickets per game if hosting two players
• Monthly remuneration for meals and household contributions

The tickets and remuneration are our way of saying thank you — but if you ask any of our billet families, the true reward is something far greater. It is the relationships formed over a season, the pride of watching a young man grow, and knowing you played a meaningful role in his journey.

Our Annual Billet Appreciation Night – 2026

Each season, the Barrie Colts host our Annual Billet Appreciation Night — an evening dedicated entirely to honouring the families who give so much of themselves to our players and our program. It is one of the most meaningful nights on our calendar, and a small but sincere reflection of the gratitude this entire organization holds for the people who make this program possible.
