Colts & Generals Complete a Trade
The Barrie Colts and Oshawa Generals have completed a trade involving overage defenceman and draft selections.
Barrie receives:
- Thomas Stewart (defenceman)
Oshawa receives:
- Connor Punnett
- 3rd Round Selection (2025 – SSM)
- 6th Round Selection (2027 – PBO)
The Barrie Colts have moved overage defenceman and team captain, Connor Punnett, to the Oshawa Generals in exchange for overage defenceman, Thomas Stewart, and two draft selections.
Punnett, who was acquired during the trade deadline in 2020 from Saginaw, has appeared in 190 games as a Colt and registered 94 points (25 Goals, 69 Assists) in his Colts career.
“Having a player like Connor on your team is always great as a coach and isn’t an easy trade to make. Connor demonstrated what it meant to be a Colt, he played the game hard and was always a player that I relied on to lead our group. Connor really grew as a person and was able to take his game to the next level here. We would like to thank Connor for all his contributions to our community and team.” Commented Head Coach & GM, Marty Williamson.
With the move, the Colts have re-acquired defenceman, Thomas Stewart, and a 3rd and 6th round draft selection. The Colts originally drafted Stewart in the 8th round of the 2019 draft but later traded his playing rights to Oshawa on 10/01/2021.
“Thomas has been a player that has really grown and developed his game in Oshawa. Thomas has been logging a lot of key minutes for them and we feel he is a great addition to our group. He’s going to be able to play in a variety of situations for us and help our blueline.” Added Williamson.
The Barrie Colts would like to welcome Thomas and he is expected to be in the Colts lineup this week when they start the road trip on Wednesday in Erie.
