Newfoundland Road Trip Friday-Saturday

Your Halifax Mooseheads are set to head out on the road this week ahead of a two-game showdown with the Newfoundland Regiment on Friday and Saturday at the Mary Brown’s Centre in St. John’s.
The Herd captured three of a possible four points on opening weekend with a shootout win Cape Breton followed by an overtime loss to Moncton. The team will fly out on Thursday in preparation to face the Regiment who split their opening two games on home ice against the Saint John Sea Dogs.
The Mooseheads will have some reinforcements available to them after Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Oleg Kulebiakin and Colorado Avalanche prospect Shawn Carrier were both sent back to the QMJHL after stints at their respective training camps. Forward Mateo Nobert currently remains at camp with the Vegas Golden Knights. Halifax announced a move on Tuesday when they called up 16-year-old defenceman Jack Cameron from the Pictou County Weeks Crushers. Cameron was a second round pick by the Moose (20th overall) in June’s QMJHL Entry Draft and will travel with the team on the trip.
The line of Quinn Kennedy, Nathan Langlois and Paul Sintschnig was highly effective on opening weekend with the three players combining for 16 points including eight alone from Kennedy who was named the QMJHL’s player of the week for his efforts. Goalie Jack Fichthorn made both starts in goal for Halifax but it is expected that 18-year-old rookie Carson Mertz will get the call in one of the matchups versus the Regiment in what would be his QMJHL debut.
Overage forward and newcomer to the Regiment, Matthew Frost got off to a good start with his new team by scoring three goals and adding an assist against the Sea Dogs. Frost was a free agent signing out of the OHL after spending last season with the Kingston Frontenacs. Newfoundland is expected to be a competitive team that could finish somewhere in the middle of the pack in a talented Eastern Conference this season.
Puck drop for both Friday and Saturday’s games are scheduled for 6:30pm Atlantic. Fans can listen live on Jack 92.9 FM and watch the live stream on FloHockey via subscription.
The next Mooseheads home games at Scotiabank Centre are scheduled for Thursday, October 8th (Student Night) at 7pm versus Rouyn-Noranda and Saturday, October 10th (Country Night) at 7pm versus Drummondville. Tickets are on sale now at Ticketmaster.ca.
