Mooseheads Announce 2026-27 Leadership Group

Head Coach Brad MacKenzie and staff unveiled the 2026-27 Mooseheads leadership group on Thursday ahead of the regular season opener in Cape Breton on Friday night.
Defenceman Owen Phillips will serve as Team Captain for a second season and will be joined by Alternate Captains Shawn Carrier, Quinn Kennedy and Danny Walters.
Phillips, a 20-year-old from Hammonds Plains, NS is the longest tenured member on the Mooseheads roster and is entering his fifth season with the team after Halifax selected him seventh overall in the 2022 QMJHL Entry Draft. He is fourth in career games played by a Mooseheads defenceman with 253 and has scored 92 career points. He has also appeared in 40 career playoff games which places him 20th in franchise history in the category.
Carrier will play his third full season in a Mooseheads uniform after coming to the team in a trade following his rookie year with Moncton. The 19-year-old Colorado Avalanche draft pick scored a team-leading 37 goals last season to go along with a career-high 65 points. The native of Trois-Rivieres, QC has played 179 career QMJHL games and has scored 120 points.
Kennedy is another home-grown Nova Scotian born player and has played 92 games with the Mooseheads after starting his career in Rimouski where he played parts of three seasons. The 20-year-old from Upper Tantallon, NS also had a career-year last season with 56 points in 61 games and has now produced a total of 153 career points in 216 regular season contests. Kennedy recently participated in Rookie Camp with the Utah Mammoth as a free agent invite.
Walters is the youngest of the group and is entering his 18-year-old season and third with the Mooseheads. The Halifax, NS native was selected by the Herd with the 11th overall pick in the first round of the 2024 QMJHL Entry Draft. He has since played in 126 career regular season games, producing 41 career points. Walters attended Rookie Camp with the Ottawa Senators are a free agent invite.
The Mooseheads begin the season on the road on Friday before returning to Halifax for the Home Opener at Scotiabank Centre on Saturday night at 7pm against the Moncton Wildcats. Doors open at 6pm.
