Rebels bolster blueline with addition of Meyer
Red Deer, Alta. — Welcome to the Rebel-ution, Kaden Meyer.
Red Deer has acquired the 18-year-old defenceman in a Monday-morning trade with the Calgary Hitmen.
The deal sees Calgary gain a fourth-round pick in the 2028 WHL Prospects Draft.
Meyer, a 6-foot-3, 191-pound left-shot defenceman, broke into the league with the Hitmen in 2025-26.
He logged a goal, six assists and 36 penalty minutes in 38 regular-season appearances, while making it into two postseason games in Calgary’s second-round matchup against the Medicine Hat Tigers.

Meyer was originally drafted by the Kamloops Blazers with the 124th overall pick in the sixth round of the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft but hadn’t yet made his league debut when Calgary traded for him in June of 2025.
The Delta, B.C. product earned BCEHL U18 Player of the Year honours in 2024-25 after leading all defencemen with 50 points (11G-39A) for the Greater Vancouver Canadians.
Meyer could make his season debut against his former club this weekend.
Red Deer will visit Calgary for its 2026-27 season opener on Friday, September 18, at 7:00 p.m. MT.
